Five cards from this deck

Taken from the published archive, unedited. A deck page that shows no card says nothing.

  • Front atomic de-excitation
Back process by which an atom transfers from an excited electronic state back to the ground state electronic configuration; often occurs by emission of a photon
  • Front atomic excitation
Back a state in which an atom or ion acquires the necessary energy to promote one or more of its electrons to electronic states higher in energy than their ground state
  • Front atomic spectra
Back the electromagnetic emission from atoms and molecules
  • Front blackbody radiation
Back the electromagnetic radiation from a blackbody
  • Front Bohr radius
Back the mean radius of the orbit of an electron around the nucleus of a hydrogen atom in its ground state

This deck was modified when it was brought in: Entries were taken from the end-of-chapter glossaries of chapters 28, 29, 30 and gathered into one deck; the chapter structure of the book is not reproduced. HTML formatting was stripped to plain text, and superscripts and subscripts were converted to the corresponding Unicode characters so that a charge or an index is not lost (H⁺, not H+; T₄, not T4). An entry was dropped when its definition is shorter than 30 characters or longer than 400 characters, when it contains an image, a table or a mathematical formula that is not reproduced here, when it refers to a figure, a table or another chapter, when it is dated by wording such as "currently" or "as of", when it is a bare cross-reference to another term, or when a superscript could not be converted faithfully. Duplicates were removed on the term and on the definition alike, both compared after lowercasing, removing parentheses and reducing plurals to singulars; a term or a definition already used by another Memoquiz deck built from OpenStax was dropped as well. Each deck is capped at 150 entries and holds at least 30. The wording of every definition that was kept is unchanged.
